Portrait or Personal Image - Eileen W Thompson

For 30 years I have been the director/owner of Sprucelands, a residential, skills-oriented English horseback riding camp for boys and girls, ages 6-17 in Java Center, New York. In the off season, I am a school counselor for a local school: grades PreK-4.

I love to read, write, ride horses, hike with my dogs, swim, work on the computer with a cat in my lap, and do handwork, but alas photography is my love. It all started when my folks gifted me a little Brownie camera for my ninth birthday. That was eons ago!

My goal is to highlight relationships where people connect with one another or an animal. Those relationships after all sustain us and make us whole.

I love when I am fortunate enough to grab a special scene, a sunrise or sunset, a flower that for a few seconds is still and quiet, an insect exploring the intricacies of a wildflower in the meadow or a cloud at the conclusion of a storm.

Even better is when you connect with my photos. Perhaps one picture will trigger a feeling or a memory. Even more wonderful is when the photo spontaneously connects you with a message you might want to convey to a friend or family member.

My camera choice at the moment is a Nikon D200. I'm learning the joy of a tripod and macro lens. I have fun with the Lensbaby when I want to spice things up or let everything blur around me; and I would like to add that BetterPhoto has blessed me with tools for taking pictures I value.
